Ready to eat Hot Italian Sausage Sandwich

We love sausages. So, when we went to Toronto last year, we made it a priority to visit the sausage street carts almost daily. They were filling, juicy, and amazing- the perfect meal for a spring or summer day. Because we love it so much, we decided to make our own zesty version using hot Italian sausage. It is super easy and quick to make,  and lunch can be ready in under 3o minutes. This one pan meal is sure to satisfy your picnic craving.

Ingredients (makes 4 sandwiches):

  • 4 Hot Italian Sausage Links
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 2 medium bell peppers, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, grated
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 3 tablespoons chicken broth
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Dash of salt
  • 4 sandwich bread of your choice (i.e. hero, rolls)

Directions:

1. Heat oil in a large skillet. Place sausage links in pan and pan fry on medium-low heat for about three minutes. Links should be slightly browned.DSCN3372

2. Add onions, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, broth, red pepper flakes, and salt to skillet. Using a small knife, make small slits in each link. These slits should look like grill marks. Continue to pan-fry links for another three minutes. Turn each link so both sides are browned.

3. Add sliced peppers and cover skillet. Cook for another 10 minutes or until peppers are slightly tender and links are thoroughly cooked. DSCN3377

4. Place sausage link along with onions and peppers on your favorite sandwich bread. You can cut the links in half if they do not entirely fit on the bread. Serve hot and enjoy!
